Jeopardy and Kids Quiz Contest
Event report by Akshay Prabhushankar
Event date: June 26, 2010
The CKS Youth Group Committee arranged a Jeopardy and Kids Quiz Contest on Saturday, June 26 for kids aged 6-18. In front of a live audience, 10 kids older than 10 participated in a Jeopardy contest, and the excitement in the room was unbelievable!
As parents cheered us on, we answered 30 questions in six categories: Science, General, Math, Geography, Sports, and Entertainment. Each category had 5 questions, each one worth 10, 20, 30, 40, or 50 points, depending on difficulty. The questions tested many subjects, including inventors, number problems, and tennis/music stars. The team consisting of Namana Rao and Anchita Honnur won first place gaining a good start by earning 100 points from a Daily Double 50-point question. Goutam Kumar and Himadri Narasimhamurthy won second and Saurabh Harohalli and Manoj Kumar won third.
To test our audience, we used the Tiebreaker Round questions (originally for our contestants, but did not need to use them). Out of 10 questions, the parents were able to answer 6-7, and on the others, their children helped them out!! Meanwhile, kids aged 6-9 took individual quizzes, each with 30 questions. Shreya Kalavala and Mayan Bhagavan tied for first, so they both were awarded.
Our winners got Borders gift cards, and everyone got certificates. Afterward, everybody enjoyed snacks and drinks. We thank the Prabhushankar family, for organizing and making the Jeopardy Contest, Jaya Hubli, for being scorekeeper for our Jeopardy Contest, Deepthi and Praveen Rao, for conducting and grading the Kids Quiz Contest, the CKS Youth Group Committee, and of course, all the participants and their parents for making this possible. I am sure everyone had fun!
